The WIZ

Ease on Down the Road with TROIKA Bermuda

Get ready to journey to Oz as TROIKA Bermuda proudly presents The Wiz, live on stage at the Ruth Seaton James Centre for the Performing Arts.

A bold and soulful reimagining of L. Frank Baum’s classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, The Wiz follows Dorothy on an extraordinary journey through the magical Land of Oz.

After being unexpectedly swept away from home, Dorothy sets out along the Yellow Brick Road in search of the mysterious Wiz, who she hopes can help her find her way back home.

Along the way, she encounters the Scarecrow, who longs for a brain; the Tinman, who dreams of having a heart; and the Lion, who is searching for courage. Together, they embark on a journey filled with friendship, challenges, discovery and unforgettable characters.

Ultimately, Dorothy’s adventure becomes much more than a journey home. It is a celebration of courage, self-belief, friendship and discovering that sometimes what we are searching for has been within us all along.

A Broadway Classic

Featuring an electrifying blend of soul, gospel, R&B, funk and pop, The Wiz transformed the familiar story of Oz into a groundbreaking celebration of Black music, culture and theatrical expression.

The musical first opened on Broadway in 1975, with music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls and a book by William F. Brown. The original Broadway production, directed by Geoffrey Holder, starred Stephanie Mills as Dorothy and went on to become a major Broadway success, running for more than 1,600 performances.

The Wiz won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score, and introduced audiences to songs that have become synonymous with the show, including:

“Ease on Down the Road”
“Be the Lion”
“No Bad News”
“Home”
“Everybody Rejoice / A Brand New Day”

Its legacy continued with the 1978 feature film starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson, The Wiz Live! television production in 2015, and subsequent stage productions and Broadway revivals that have introduced new generations to the magic of Oz.

The Experience

For TROIKA Bermuda, The Wiz is more than a Broadway musical — it is an opportunity to bring together Bermuda’s performers, young people, creatives and theatre professionals for a major theatrical experience.

Our production brings the world of Oz to life through dynamic vocals, choreography, imaginative costumes, scenic design and contemporary creative elements, while celebrating the heart, music and message that have made The Wiz a beloved musical for
generations.

Audiences can expect a vibrant theatrical journey filled with energy, colour, humour, heart and some of musical theatre’s most memorable music.

At its centre is a message that continues to resonate: the importance of believing in yourself, recognizing your own strength and finding the courage to become who you are meant to be.

A Show for the Whole Family

Whether you grew up with The Wiz, discovered it through the iconic film, know its music, or are experiencing the story for the very first time, TROIKA Bermuda invites you to join us for an unforgettable journey through Oz.

Bring the family. Follow the Yellow Brick Road. And get ready to Ease on Down the Road with TROIKA Bermuda!

About Us

TROIKA Bermuda (TROIKA) is committed to educating, enlightening and entertaining through meaningful theatrical experiences and performing arts initiatives that bring together Bermuda’s young people, artists and creative professionals.

Our mission is to create high-quality performing arts experiences while providing opportunities for young Bermudians to develop their talents, hone their craft and grow both on and off the stage.

At TROIKA, we believe that art, education and enjoyment work hand in hand. Through theatre and the performing arts, young people are given opportunities to explore their creativity, learn about history and culture, develop invaluable life skills, and discover the power of collaboration, discipline and self-expression.

Our Work

Through the TROIKA Players and our wider programmes, we provide training, mentorship and performance opportunities for emerging Bermudian artists.

Our creative work draws upon both professional theatrical works and original productions, with an emphasis on stories that inspire, challenge, educate and entertain.

From performers on stage to young people gaining experience behind the scenes, our programmes provide opportunities for participants to work alongside experienced creative and technical professionals while being exposed to the standards and expectations of professional theatre.

Program Pillars

TROIKA is a multi-faceted performing arts organization, with our work delivered through a series of core initiatives known as the TROIKA Program Pillars.

1. WORK IN PROGRESS (W.I.P.)
TROIKA’s signature theatrical production platform, bringing together emerging and established performers, creatives and theatre professionals to present high-quality theatrical experiences for Bermuda audiences.

2. MASTER CLASS & WORKSHOP SERIES
A training and development platform providing participants with opportunities to learn from experienced local and international professionals across a range of performing arts disciplines.

3. FYE: YOUNG CHOREOGRAPHERS SHOWCASE
A platform dedicated to developing and showcasing emerging choreographers, providing young creatives with opportunities to explore movement, develop original work and bring their creative visions to the stage.

4. ASCEND: YOUTH TALENT PROJECT
A youth-focused initiative designed to identify, nurture and showcase emerging talent while supporting the artistic and personal development of Bermuda’s next generation of performers.

Together, these pillars reflect TROIKA’s commitment to creating opportunities that extend beyond the stage — developing talent, building confidence, encouraging creativity and strengthening Bermuda’s performing arts community.

Our Productions

TROIKA Bermuda has developed a reputation for bringing ambitious and meaningful theatrical productions to Bermuda audiences while creating a platform for local talent to perform, learn and grow.

Our previous major musical productions include:

Once on This Island
Disney’s Beauty and the Beast
The Color Purple
Sarafina!

TROIKA’s theatrical journey also includes the development and presentation of original works, beginning with our debut production, Ammunition, and continuing with H.I.S.T.O.R.Y. and Misunderstood. In August 2013, Misunderstood was presented at the National Black Theatre Festival in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, marking an important milestone for TROIKA as our original work was showcased to audiences beyond Bermuda.

Each production represents another chapter in TROIKA’s commitment to combining artistic excellence with youth development and community engagement.

From the vibrant Caribbean storytelling of Once on This Island and the magic of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, to the powerful stories and themes explored through The Color Purple and Sarafina!, alongside the stories brought to life through our own original works, TROIKA has sought to provide audiences with diverse and meaningful theatrical experiences while creating opportunities for Bermudian performers, writers, creatives and theatre practitioners to develop and showcase their craft.

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES …

In November 2026, TROIKA Bermuda continues this journey with one of Broadway’s most celebrated musicals — The Wiz.

Through its unforgettable music, vibrant storytelling and themes of courage, friendship, self-discovery and believing in yourself, The Wiz provides another opportunity for TROIKA to bring together generations of Bermudian performers and creatives for a major
theatrical experience.

Our Purpose

Through everything we do, TROIKA seeks to:
Develop Talent. Inspire Creativity. Strengthen Community.

We believe the arts have the power to build confidence, create connections, celebrate our collective creativity and enrich Bermuda’s cultural landscape.
